Monitor a competitor on X
Watch public X conversation about a rival so you can see who uses it, compares it, or wants to leave.
Short answer. Paste a competitor’s website or X profile. DROP listens to public posts about that product and surfaces people around it — including users who may fit you.
Treat the rival as the radar target
DROP takes your product or a competitor’s. The competitor becomes the identity it searches. Each site or handle is its own radar and its own subscription.
Look for their users, not their press
Official announcements are weak signal. Useful posts describe the work someone is trying to do, what broke, or what they would switch for.
Compare later, on the same radar
After enough classified posts, you can add your own product on that same radar. DROP writes one reading of why people stay or leave — it does not invent a second fake radar.
An unresolved migration problem
Illustrative exercise — not a real customer result.
Worth checking: “Can I leave this feedback tool without losing requester history?” identifies a switching constraint. Compare it with your supported migration path.
Do not count: A launch announcement from the competitor is neither dissatisfaction nor a request to switch.
Next step: Write down the migration constraint and explain only a method your product actually supports.
Try it step by step
- Choose one rival’s canonical website, avoiding a generic name that may identify unrelated products.
- Review complaints and recommendation requests separately from announcements and praise.
- Compare the requested change against your own documented features, then respond only when you can address it.
| Approach | Useful for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Mention count | Track collected references to a competitor. | Does not establish willingness to switch. |
| Switching evidence | Understand a named problem, constraint or alternative request. | Still requires checking that your product fits. |
Using DROP for this task
DROP is a social listening and customer discovery tool for product makers and content creators. Paid monitoring supports 4 platforms: X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Threads. Focus includes up to 500 post reads per paid period; Growth includes up to 3,000. Reads are not guaranteed leads. The initial logged-in preview samples X and Reddit.
Inspect a product example · Inspect a creator example · Pricing and limits. Both examples are fictional and need no login. Read a real DROP snapshot with original-source excerpts and limitations.
Can DROP reveal a competitor’s private customer list?
No. It examines available public posts, not private account or billing data.
Should I reply to every competitor complaint?
No. First check whether the problem is unresolved and your product meets the author’s constraints. A missing integration can rule out your product even when the author dislikes the rival.
