Find a competitor’s users on X
Find people already using or considering a rival on X, so you can talk to demand that already exists.
Short answer. A competitor’s users are people publicly using, recommending, questioning, or leaving that product. DROP finds them from the rival’s site or handle, not from your mention stream.
Their users are a different search than your mentions
Your own brand search finds people who already know you. A competitor search finds people whose current tool, complaint, or comparison is already public.
Do not search a generic company name
Short names collide. DROP should start from the product URL and handle. If two products share a name, the site is the identity.
Talk to the original post
Cards open the original post. The point is a real person and a real sentence, not a count of “users found.”
Evidence that the author uses the rival
Illustrative exercise — not a real customer result.
Worth checking: “We use Acme for client approvals and cannot export annotations” provides first-person workflow evidence.
Do not count: “I heard Acme is popular” does not establish use, dissatisfaction or demand.
Next step: Retain the original statement and qualify the missing capability before suggesting your tool.
Try it step by step
- Start with a specific competitor URL rather than a category-wide list of companies.
- Read posts for first-person use, questions about replacing the tool and concrete workflow details.
- Keep the evidence and source link with your notes. Do not label a person a customer solely because they named the brand.
Using DROP for this task
DROP is a social listening and customer discovery tool for product makers and content creators. Paid monitoring supports 4 platforms: X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Threads. Focus includes up to 500 post reads per paid period; Growth includes up to 3,000. Reads are not guaranteed leads. The initial logged-in preview samples X and Reddit.
Inspect a product example · Inspect a creator example · Pricing and limits. Both examples are fictional and need no login. Read a real DROP snapshot with original-source excerpts and limitations.
Does naming a tool prove the author uses it?
No. They may be reporting news, quoting somebody else or researching options. Look for their own description of use.
Can I treat a complaint as a qualified sales lead?
Only after checking the task, current constraints and relevance. DROP’s match explanation is a starting point, not confirmation of a purchase.
