DROP vs Dropbox Transfer: size and expiry compared
This comparison covers Dropbox Transfer, the delivery product, rather than treating the whole Dropbox storage platform as one transfer plan.
Send a file| Dimension | DROP | Dropbox Transfer Basic |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Temporary delivery | Finished-file delivery |
| Sender account | Not required for the base flow | Dropbox account |
| Size / allowance basis | 3 GB total per transfer; up to 1,000 files | 2 GB per transfer |
| Link lifetime | 24h anonymous; optional verified Google extension to 72h from creation | 7 days |
| Recipient access | Anyone with a valid link | Dropbox account not required to receive |
Google sign-in extension depends on configuration and verification before expiry. Vendor plans can change. Comparison is published by DROP; no independent speed ranking is implied.
Size is only one constraint
Choose a service by both package size and recipient timing. DROP’s anonymous expiry is 24 hours from creation; its optional verified Google extension is 72 hours from creation. A recipient who needs a longer window may prefer a different delivery plan.
Expiry is different from deletion
A link becoming unavailable does not by itself establish the precise time every stored object is erased. DROP checks access deadlines and then cleans up in the background. Read each provider’s policy if deletion timing matters to your workflow.
