DROP speed benchmarks: method and evidence status
No public multi-provider benchmark is available yet. DROP does not currently claim “world’s fastest” or a measured speed advantage over WeTransfer, Google Drive or Dropbox. This page defines what a useful comparison must measure.
Send a fileMeasure the full handoff
Record time from transfer creation through upload completion until the share link is ready. Separately record download time to first byte and full download duration, including byte count and checksum verification. Report decimal MB/s and Mbps with the formula: bytes × 8 ÷ seconds ÷ 1,000,000.
Use comparable conditions
Use identical payload bytes, plan tiers, devices, browser versions, sender/recipient networks and test windows across providers. Keep file upload, file download and ZIP download separate. Randomize provider order, separate cold and warm cache runs and retain failed attempts. Report sample counts, median, p95 and success rate; small samples do not support broad conclusions.
Scope every result
A defensible result reads “lowest median upload-to-link time among these services in these networks on these dates.” It cannot become “fastest worldwide.” Publish anonymized raw records and the runner version, disclose operator sponsorship and repeat after material routing or product changes.
